Due to shortage of referees, certified referees are not typically assigned to the U8/U7 games. Occassionally, youth referees may work U8/U7 games to gain experience as a center referee in a non-competitive environment. As a consequence, the two coaches need to appoint a person to referee the game. That person(s) should have a basic understanding of the game.
10 to 15 minutes prior to the game and away from the field of play unless the field is unoccupied.
The team banner shall be installed at the end of the prior game, not during the game.
On Dublin fields, at all times, registered coaches, assistant coaches and players, from both teams, will be on one side of the field. All spectators will be on the opposite side. (Let the players have fun and play the game at their pace. Excessive coaching during the game will confuse the players. Parents need to be advised not to instruct the players).
Two (2) halves of 20 minutes each, with a 10 minute break at half time. Use the break period to instruct and discuss the game.
Substitute players midway through each half (should only take a few seconds) and at half time. Other substitutions are possible with the approval of the referee.
Each player shall play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time during a game.
The use of a rotation system is recommended. To make positions easy to understand and less confusing to the players at this age, it is recommended that rotations be done from game to game throughout the season rather than during the same game. In addition, each child should be given the opportunity to play the position of goalkeeper at least once during the season.
All intentional fouls will result in an indirect free kick with the opponent positioned at least six (6) yards away.
There will be no "direct" free kicks.
All free kicks are "indirect".
There will be no penalty kicks.
There will be no offside calls. The referee may instruct the coach if players are in obvious and continuous offside positions.
Conform to FIFA laws of the game; however one re-throw is allowed after an explanation.
League standings will not be kept. Game scores will not be kept or recorded.
There will be no cup play for this age group. However, a jamboree will be held as part of the last scheduled game of the season. All players will be rewarded and treated to lunch by the DUSL Board of Directors.
